NASA Explorer Schools

Usually when we think of NASA, we think of spaceships exploring new frontiers. And so it is, of course, but the nation’s space agency also has its hand in more down-to-earth activities, activities that may well have a direct influence on the children in your life.

In the NASA Explorer School (NAS) project, created in 2003, the agency partners with underserved schools across the country to provide a math, science, and technology curriculum to students K-12. When a partnership agreement is reached, teachers and a school administrator come together to develop and implement a three-year action plan that addresses local challenges on the issues listed above. Based on the information generated through the needs assessments, this customized plan is delivered through a combination of school-site services and distance learning networks.

Elements of the program include professional development workshops during the summer months where teams of educators meet at the nine NASA Field Centers and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The intensive one-week training provides opportunities for teachers to begin integrating NASA content into existing school curricula and extends to creating and implementing action plans to address local challenges.

Throughout the school year, ongoing research-based professional development includes NASA Aerospace Education Specialists, Space Grant Consortia, Educator Resource Centers, and NASA Education Networks.

That is the somewhat boring explanation of what it is about. The real life examples are much more exciting.

Botball, anyone?

Chances are you have never played botball since it is a game only played by robots. But hey, robots have to have fun too, right? For the past three years, Explorer Schools students have been taking up the challenge of building and programming robots to compete with opponents on a field the size of a ping-pong table. The challenge for 2006 was “Search and Rescue.” Robotics teams worked autonomously to locate a stuffed robot and its “tribble” friends. (Star Trek fans understand tribbles. They’re round, furry animals that reproduce faster than the spam in your inbox.) The challenge was to complete various tasks and score points before the opposing robots. (It’s a bit like Survivor, minus the bikinis.)

Search and Rescue (and the other botball challenges) provide middle and high school students with a hands-on application of learning in science, technology, engineering, and math. Competing teams built their robots from an official kit containing things like 1,800 LEGO building blocks, two Xport Botball Controllers (XBC, connected to Nintendo® Game Boy Advance devices), and 20 sensors, including color recognition cameras. After using the parts to build their robots, the students programmed them using a version of the C computer language.

The annual botball challenges have generated such enthusiasm that at least 13 regional tournaments are held across the United States. Hawaii is actively involved, with more than 20 participating schools. The 2007 national tournament will be held in Honolulu in July and will be one of the events of the National Conference on Educational Robotics.

The NASA website quoted Jade Bowman, NES team leader at Hawaii’s Waimea Middle School, as saying, “The Botball program has been an avenue for our students to broaden their horizons in many areas.” Bowman added that the botball program exposed students to new careers, taught them to use a variety of technology, increased self-confidence, developed complex thinking and showed the importance of team play.

Cassini scientists for a day

On January 23, 2006, a group of third, fourth, and fifth grade students in California became “scientists for a day” and selected where to point the cameras of the Cassini spacecraft as it continued its journey through space around Saturn. . These students from Shirley Avenue Elementary School in Reseda, California (part of the Explorer network), had 10 days to study three target options and decide which opportunity would make the most scientific sense. After much debate, they decided to take an image of the planet’s rings.

Mission planners calculated the necessary maneuvers and sent the commands to the spacecraft. The students had been studying Saturn prior to the project, so they had an idea of what the mission entailed.

The “Cassini Scientist for a Day” activity helped them understand how long it takes to gather scientific information and how difficult it is to make decisions. The NASA website quotes the children’s teacher, Kathy Cooper, as saying: “I was surprised to hear a fourth grader say, ‘You need to have a good eye and be patient, because science is not fast, we did it. ‘You don’t learn about the universe overnight; it takes time,'” Cooper says. “The activity brought a higher level of thinking; they kept coming up with good questions.”

Build your own space rocket

Michigan’s Southfield School was the first in the country to be designated a NASA Explorer School. In early 2006, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, announced a $2,500 grant to students in Southfield, Michigan to help them design, build, and launch their own rocket. As part of NASA’s Student Launch Initiative, the project helps students learn more about engineering and teamwork through a hands-on approach to building and launching rockets with payloads.

The Student Launch Initiative is jointly administered by the Marshall Center in partnership with the Huntsville Area Rocket Association, a group of rocket enthusiasts and engineers who launch their own rockets. Each participating student team designs, builds and tests their own rockets, while documenting their progress on a website. Students may seek guidance from professional engineers during the design and test phases. Teams also learn problem-solving skills, how to prepare and present proposals, and how to budget.

Teams display and launch their rockets in a competition. Competing rockets carry a tracking device and a recoverable scientific payload that weighs between a quarter and a half pound. The rocket must reach an altitude of one mile during the flight and be reusable. After the flight, the team collects data from the payload, analyzes it, and reports the results to engineers at the Marshall Center, the project’s mentors, who evaluate each rocket and determine the winners. Winning teams receive a school trophy.

How to become a School Explorer

According to the website, competitive applications are accepted and selection for the NASA Explorer School teams takes place each spring. Up to 50 teams will be added each year, for a maximum total of 150 teams.

Cooper’s Law: 14 Easy-To-Follow Rules To Make Money From Horse Racing

Betting on tri-casts seems an unlikely means of making a profit, but professional sponsor Paul Cooper used it to win almost £400,000 in a series of bets in Thirsk.

Cooper was one of the first to capitalize on the fact that the high draft horses seemed to have a pronounced advantage over the straight sprint at Thirsk. There are a number of tracks around the country where, on soft ground, a particular draw can prove to be a huge advantage, but at Thirsk the same was true of fast racing. It appears that deficiencies in the track’s sprinkler system left a strip of dirt under the rails of the “unsprayed” stands, which went significantly faster than the rest of the track. By betting the top five or six numbers in the draw, the ones most likely to get the favorite wicket, Cooper was able to pull off a number of big hits.

“I was hooked on gambling at a very young age,” Cooper admitted. “But even then I knew you had to be in control of it, otherwise it would control you.”

During the 1970s, the ITV Seven was introduced. It immediately caught Cooper’s attention. ‘One of my first bets was a £1.90 bet that won over £800. I was in business! A couple of years later I made £13,365 on a £3 accumulator and was really on my way.’ Cooper is still fascinated by multiple bets, the prospect of big wins for a small outlay, and believes that serious gamblers shouldn’t treat them so arrogantly.

‘The Lucky 15 is a value bet.- It’s a Yankee who also has four winning singles, and different sportsbooks offer a variety of bonuses and consolations. For example, if he only wins one of his picks, he can get double the odds. So just a 7/1 winner pretty much guarantees his money back.’

Cooper’s penchant for what Barney Curley calls ‘miracle gambling’ isn’t his only apparent similarity to the man on the street. Like all bookies regulars, he is irresistibly drawn to competitive handicaps where they bet 6/1, but hits much more often.

Cooper insists that studying the trainers is the key to the entire operation of his business. The fact that, as an owner, he has chosen to have horses trained by Barry Hills, Jimmy Fitzgerald and Robert Williams hints at the men he respects most in the game.’ “There are certainly some coaches I’d rather endorse,” he says. “What I’m really looking for is someone who is perhaps undervalued and as a result has their horses start at higher prices than they should.”

So what can we learn from the meticulous and immaculately dressed Mr. Cooper? Well, here are his 7 big do’s and don’ts, known as “Cooper’s Law.”

Cooper’s Law – Back

1: Stay cool, calm and collected when making a selection, and don’t go with your head down. Weigh all the possibilities and then have the courage to move on.

2: Only bet when you get good value and look for the best starting prices.

3: Push back the horses that have gained shape. Stay away from the maidens – the form is unpredictable and untested.

4: Bet on sprints. The form is usually more reliable than in longer distance flat races.

5: Find a competent little yard to follow; because it is not fashionable, you will almost certainly get a good price on your horses.

6: Watch the horses in the paddock, especially in the spring and fall. You can usually rule out quite a few that are obviously not ready or are showing all the signs of a tough season.

7: Bet within your means. Reduce your bets when you are on a losing streak and increase them when things are going well.

Cooper’s Law – Avoid

1: Do not get drunk or mix alcohol with gambling. You need your wits to pick winners and objectively deal with losses.

2: Don’t endorse low-priced favorites. The returns just aren’t good enough, and let’s face it, they are often delivered anyway.

3: Don’t chase your losses. There is always another day.

4: Don’t get pushy when there’s been a sudden change in the road.

5: Do not back overweight trainers, stables or riders.

6: Don’t be too supportive of Chester. The narrow way is a law in itself.

7: Do not bet on races with more than 18 runners. This is when the horses will split into two or more groups, effectively becoming two or three different breeds.

Google Search for Men’s Sexy Underwear Trends on the Web

Ok, the subject of men’s underwear is not that interesting. However, what is really interesting is how many people on the internet want to know something about men’s underwear. Variations of men’s underwear are sought after even more often than women’s underwear. – Considering women buy the vast majority of clothing in the US, that’s a surprise. What’s with this fascination with men’s underwear anyway? For all intents and purposes intensive it should be a very dull and boring theme. – Good? This is because the most popular underwear men wear are basic briefs or those white briefs found in almost every discount store called “tighty-whites.”

In the last decade or so, men’s underwear departments in retail stores have blossomed from drab white to a plethora of colors. Even sexy men’s thongs and colorful men’s micro bikini briefs are merchandised front and center in mainstream retail stores. The fashion for men’s sexy underwear is becoming increasingly popular in Europe (where people are generally in better shape and less obsessed with their body image). Men’s bikini underwear has been a standard in the South American regions for many years.

The reason for the intense Internet traffic on this topic is not clear. Perhaps some of the mass market male consumers are getting on board with the standard utilitarian underwear offered to men. Historically, a much wider range of underwear has been offered to women over the years, while comparatively few options have been offered to men. Specialty underwear for both men and women are reportedly among one of the fastest growing segments of the apparel industry. While the market for men’s see-through underwear is probably much smaller than the women’s, frequent searches are done every day to find variations of men’s see-through underwear. Perhaps wives and significant others are also getting bored with what they see in their partner at bedtime?

There are more than 90,000 pages on the Internet that mention men’s underwear. The Internet has allowed online specialty retailers to thrive without having to create expensive mass distribution for their products. Some say there’s a new type of consumer on the horizon dubbed the “metrosexual male.” – They are men who are active consumers of fashion and personal care products that improve visual appearance.

The last two hundred years have been hard on the male species. Due to frequent wars and the strain resulting from the rapid progression of industrialization, men became the workhorse, while women (the lucky ones anyway) became the sole beneficiaries of pampering and indulgence. . As society moves from the technology age to the information age, men find time to participate in the vanity of life.

Many young men today try harder to look their best. From hair products and teeth whitening, to cosmetics and hair loss treatments, men are getting in on the “fashion” game. No doubt, due to the help of the expert manufacturers of toiletries that shine to meet new frontiers of the market. Competing for space in shopping districts and cosmetic counters are now manufacturers of products for effeminate men. For the world of men’s fashion, a vicious circle has begun. – As he did with women many decades ago.

The problem for most men is that the situation cannot be ignored. For example, if everyone around you gets a makeover, you won’t look as attractive anymore. So let’s spruce up our look just to keep up. Specialty retailers seem to be anticipating something of a renaissance movement in the world of menswear. The rise in interest in men’s underwear can be a barometer of things to come. So the next time you feel compelled to buy those stretchy jeans for men, you might be persuaded to buy a men’s micro thong to keep your physique in top shape.

Ok, now does my title make sense? Obviously, for media, tickets and television, this makes sense because people choose who they want to see. However, it is also quite stupid. Here is the definition of Athlete: it consists of athletes chosen as the best in their positions from all the teams in a league or region.

So how does a player like Iverson get started? I really like Iverson, he’s by far one of the best point guards ever, but not this year. How can he be the starting PG with stats like this: 14.4 PPG, 4.4 APG, only 19 total games played and his team is 14-28? Yes, he’s good, but there’s no way he deserves to start.

I’m still not convinced this is a popularity contest, look at T-Mac’s votes. He is my favorite player in the NBA, but it would be a terrible joke to say that he deserves to be on the list. To make matters worse, T-Mac outvoted Nash until last week. T-Mac has played in 6 complete games this year, averaging just 7.7 min in each of those games, going 3.2 PPG and just 1.0 APG.

And there are other examples of players who are also up there because they are more popular than others. So ask yourself: is it fair that these players who were great a couple of years ago are pushed ahead of the players who have earned it this year? After all, isn’t it a game to reward the players who have played the best this year? Otherwise I think next year I could vote for Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley.

What can you do to make a person regret not committing to you?

I often hear from women who are a little resentful because they haven’t yet received a commitment or proposal from the man they love and have been in a relationship with. They feel like they have invested everything they have in the relationship and now they have nothing to show for it. And as a result, they understandably wonder if he sometimes regrets it.

An example of what you might hear in this situation is something like, “I’ve invested two years in my boyfriend. I’ve always been very supportive and loyal and loving. He knew full well when we met that I was looking for something permanent, but he “He got involved with me anyway. After about a year of our relationship, he told me he wasn’t going to be ready to commit anytime soon. I guess he and I have different definitions of the word ‘soon.’ Because now it’s been a year and he still doesn’t want to commit to me. In fact, he says he doesn’t know when he’ll be ready. I’m very angry about this. I’m not sure if I want to stay in this relationship or not. But I feel like I want him to regret it. this. How do I make him regret it when I probably won’t leave him? I’ve been thinking about withholding my affections or bringing his attention to how lucky and happy our engaged friends are. I want him to realize that not committing to me is a big error. How can I do this?

I understand wanting him to pay attention and realize how painful it is to not want to commit. But, you have to remember what you really want. And I guess what you really want is for him to wake up one day soon and realize that he’s been wrong all along and that he wants to commit to you as soon as possible and without waiting any longer. And, looking at the long term, you want to get engaged and then get married and live happily ever after. This is a very valid dream and certainly not too much to ask. But you have to be very careful how you try to achieve this.

Regret is a negative emotion. And if you force that on him, then he can project those negative feelings onto you or your relationship. You need a plan that reinforces his love for you and highlights the health of your relationship. Withholding your affection isn’t going to do that. It will only make you feel frustrated, lonely, or unhappy. You don’t want this. It probably wouldn’t hurt to have mutual friends who are happily engaged so he can see that people who are engaged can be very happy. But you don’t want to be so obvious about the fact that you’re using your friends to drive your own point home. Your boyfriend may not think favorably of this and he may resent you for it or may withdraw from his friends. You don’t want this either.

You want him to be happy. And more than that, you want him to be happy with you and within your relationship. Frankly, if you cultivate a happy, positive and playful relationship, there’s a good chance that one day your boyfriend will look around and be overwhelmed with the thought of “what was I waiting for? I have a wonderful girl in a loving relationship and here I was dragging my feet. I’m not going to make that mistake twice.” This is the kind of healthy and benign repentance you want to encourage.

But you don’t want the kind of regret that is based on fear, guilt, or shame. Sure, it’s okay to want him to think he was wrong or just incredibly slow. But you don’t want to try to make him think he’s stupid, selfish, or dense. Because this is the man you love. So sure, it’s okay to encourage him to see that he’s a little late to the party. But you don’t want him to feel like he’s being punished or pointing out all his flaws. Because this would probably make him think less about you and the relationship. And, as a result, commitment from him becomes less likely.

How do porn stars last so long? – Their secrets revealed

I bet anyone who has watched adult entertainment has wondered how pornstars last so long when they have sex with such amazing looking women. I know I did. So I decided to find out what their secrets are.

Fortunately, I had some industry contacts and got to see some shots and ask some questions. Everyone involved was more than happy to help, they are generally a very friendly bunch. I guess who wouldn’t give what they do for a living.

So what did I find out? Well, of course, some camera and editing tricks are used, after all, they are in show business. But these guys were also incredibly professional and had quite a few tricks to help their stamina. They wouldn’t get paid if they didn’t act. The best thing is that you can use most of these techniques at home to help your own duration.

Some of the most common methods were:

  • They used lots and lots of lube to reduce friction. This was something that everyone (including the actresses) seemed to follow to make sure that both men and women had a good time.
  • They used condoms, and many men used the newer ones with a small amount of local anesthetic at the tip to reduce stimulation. You can buy these almost everywhere you can get the regular kind these days.
  • If things got out of hand too quickly, they would stop, take a break, and focus on something else for a while. You can also easily use this at home, try orally with your partner if you want to keep your arousal levels high.
  • They were often over quickly the first time, but knew they would last much longer after that. Many guys at home try strategic masturbation before big dates if they want to impress a new partner.
  • They think about something else while they are at work. A guy I talked to was writing a play, so he worked on it in his mind. Another would replay a basketball game in his imagination. Almost everyone had a trick to distract them from what they were doing. The old cliché of listing batting averages also works very well.

There is a brief summary of the most common methods that answers the question of how do porn stars last so long. I found out a lot more while on set.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks made their debut at the Chicago Coliseum, in front of 9,000 cheering fans. The year was 1926 and the Blackhawks beat the Toronto St. Patricks 4-1. In the many decades since, the Blackhawks have won three Stanley Cups and become a Chicago institution. The Blackhawks have always had many great players who created unforgettable moments in history.

The Chicago Blackhawks are a professional ice hockey team. They are based in Chicago, Illinois and are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the NHL (National Hockey League). Along with the three Stanley Cups, the Blackhawks have also won fourteen division titles. The Blackhawks are part of the Original Six NHL teams. The other teams include the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, and New York Rangers.

The NHL expanded to the United States in 1926, and the Blackhawks joined them as part of the first wave. Detroit Cougars (now Detroit Red Wings) and New York Rangers were the other two teams that were there that year. Most of the Blackhawks’ players came from the WHL’s Portland Rosebuds.

Frederic McLaughlin, the coffee magnate, was the first owner of Blackhawks. He was a commander during the First World War. His division was called the Blackhawk Division and McLaughlin named his hockey team after the military unit. The earlier version of the name was spelled as two separate words, Black Hawks. In the summer of 1986, the club officially decided to go with a one-word Blackhawks version.

McLaughlin didn’t know much about hockey, however he played a very active role in running the team. He served as the team’s general manager and took a keen interest in promoting American hockey players. It was weird at the time. Under McLaughlin’s leadership, the Blackhawks became the first NHL team with an all-American lineup.

The Blackhawks played their first game against the Toronto St. Patricks. They won the game and finished the season in third place. They lost the first round of the 1927 playoff series to the Boston Bruins. McLaughlin fired head coach Pete Muldoon after this. McLaughlin and Muldoon had a disagreement over whether the Blackhawks were good enough. McLaughlin felt that his team was good enough to finish first, and the coach disagreed.

Frederic McLaughlin died in 1944. His estate later sold the Blackhawks to a syndicate headed by Bill Tobin. Tobin was just a puppet to Red Wings owner James Norris. Norris had owned the Blackhawks since he bought Chicago Stadium in 1936.

The Blackhawks were consistently out of the playoffs from 2001 through the 2008-09 season. For most years they ended up well out of contention.

Nonetheless, the team has won the hearts of American hockey fans by making strong comebacks after temporary setbacks.

For confirmed Chicago Blackhawks tickets, you should prepare well in advance and go to a reliable ticket agent. Any hockey fan worth their salt should see at least one Blackhawks game. Get your Blackhawks tickets as soon as they are available.

5 Winning Recruiting Tips to Avoid March Madness

March is a long-awaited moment for many. It’s a time when both sports fans and non-sports fans come together to join office groups. Confident brackets are put together with the anticipation of “I’m taking it all this year!”, until the little school you’ve never heard of gets an upset against your winning team. March Madness is called “March Madness” because anything can happen in the NCAA March Madness Tournament!

But what exactly defines a winning team? How come some of the teams you’ve never heard of beat your favorite team? As recruiters, there are a few characteristics that can be learned from winning teams in the March Madness tournament. From strategy, to determination, to finishing in the final moments, we’ll delve into each of these winning playbook features and more to learn how you can be a winning recruiter.

  1. Strategy

As teams prepare to play their tournament opponent, they study video footage, practice plays, and come up with an overall strategy to defeat the other team. Similarly, with each new job request, recruiters must come up with a winning strategy to find the perfect candidate for their client on time. Just as players study old footage of their opponent, you can start by taking a look at similar positions you’ve recruited for in the past to see the successful ways you’ve found candidates. You may already have some candidates in the pipeline from last time who might be good for this position.

Winning players also try to “visualize their game”. In their head, they see themselves dribbling past opponents, scoring points, and making game-winning shots. All top athletes, not just college basketball players, visualize their game, and science has shown that this mental strategy can actually work! While recruiters can certainly envision themselves finding a candidate their client could never have dreamed of, recruiters must more of Visualize your action plan and write it down.

Some important points to keep in mind when devising a strategy and action plan to complete your work order:

  • Where will you promote the work? Will you be using Indeed®, CareerBuilder®, LinkedIn®? What is the best platform for this particular job order to find the best candidates?
  • What type of candidates will you target? What experience will you be looking for? What skill set will they need to have?
  • How can you use your ATS to find candidates? Many times, you can immediately fall back on finding new candidates, however, your ATS may house hundreds or even thousands of candidates right in front of you! As soon as you determine the types of candidates you’re looking for, you can use the search capabilities in your ATS to specifically search for those types of candidates.
  • Do you already have a pipeline of candidates for a similar job you were recruiting for in the past? As with the previous point, inventing the wheel is not always necessary! Check to see if you already have a handful of qualified candidates that you’ve previously vetted for a similar position. If so, these candidates would be a good place to start.
  • Do you plan to put together an email campaign for this position, followed by a call? As you search for potential leads in your ATS, you can add them to a designated pipeline to make it easier to include them in an email or call campaign.

Proposing your strategy and the steps on how you are going to carry out that strategy is the first step to getting the perfect location. As Bobby Knight, former head coach of the Indiana University Hoosiers (1971-2000), said, “The will to succeed is important, but what’s more important is the will to prepare.”

  1. Leadership and teamwork

All winning teams have a leader. Whether it’s a particular coach on a team, a player, or even both, all successful teams have leaders who guide the team in carrying out its strategy to victory. This also includes teamwork. Leaders are not ball hoarders trying to do it all themselves. They work with their team to bring home a win!

As a recruiter, you are the leader of each job order. You are in charge of not only carrying out your strategy, but also “leading” a successful team. With each job order, you may not traditionally work with a team, but there may be other people you can work with to help fill the position. Is there anyone in the industry that you have a connection to who might know someone for the position or help advertise it? Or maybe there is someone at your employment agency who has held similar positions in the past. Work with them to see if they can offer you any advice; They may even recommend someone for the position. Using your connections can be extremely beneficial for recruiting. As I always like to say, “Teamwork makes dreams work!”

Teamwork can also come from the side of working with the client. At the beginning, you want to have a complete understanding of the type of candidate the client is looking for. You will also want to get the answers to the questions you have received. After that, it’s important to maintain a good relationship throughout the process so they trust that you are the right person to find their candidate. If all goes well, they will want to work with you in the future!

  1. Communication

Communication on and off the pitch is key to a winning team. Off the court, the team must clearly communicate the game plan so that all players know what their role will be on the upcoming plays. On-court communication is just as important to communicate what you’re seeing on the court, what game you’re playing, and more.

Effective communication is also extremely important for recruiters. When presenting candidates to your clients, you need to find the best way to present the candidate and “sell” them so that your client knows why they should consider this person for the position. Similarly, when you talk to candidates, you need to present the job in a way that makes them interested in the position so they want to learn more. Both initial communications are critical to starting the conversation off right. You need to be prepared to know what to say, how to say it, and the best format to present it (phone call, video call, screen share, email, etc.)

When communicating regularly with candidates, you also need to find out what is the best mode of communication for them. Is it email, text, phone call? Once you start an initial conversation with an interested candidate, find out the best way to contact them. That will make both your life and theirs easier. Slow response times can often be avoided as long as you communicate in the best way to get a timely response.

Video interviews are also a form of communication that has become popular during the pandemic. Some recruiters may not feel comfortable doing a video interview yet, however, it is just like conducting an in-person interview. The only difference is that the interview is conducted virtually. Recruiters want to have their regular interview questions ready, dress professionally, and have the right background/lighting. Before the candidate participates in the interview, make sure that the sound and image are working. You may also want to provide specific instructions to the interviewee on how to join the video interview and connect to audio/visual. Even if it seems straightforward, sending instructions ahead of time can help ensure it runs smoothly and without technical difficulties. The first interview with the candidate is like the “first impression” of her. While they may be nervous about making a good first impression on you, you also want to make a good first impression on them. If the interview doesn’t go smoothly or seems unprofessional, they may not be interested in working with you in the future.

Effective communication throughout the entire recruiting process is essential to get you closer to winning your perfect recruit!

  1. Determination

Never giving up is a trait that all NCAA winning teams have. No matter how many points they are down, they are determined to keep fighting because the game is never over until the end. Anything can happen and we have certainly experienced this while watching March Madness! Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest NBA players of all time, once said, “The moment you give up, that’s the moment you let someone else win.”

The same can be applied in recruiting. You may not initially find the perfect candidate and you may have ups and downs, but you should stay positive and keep looking. It’s easy to get discouraged if we fail, but staying determined to find the right candidate will help you succeed in the long run.

If you start to get discouraged, take a step back and see what might not be working and how you can fix it. Having trouble finding the right candidate? Are they missing something from their skill set that the customer wants? Are you close to filling out the job order, but the candidate does not accept the offer? Take a look at what’s going on and ways you can find a solution to take over the game!

  1. Ending in the Final Moments

Similar to the above, we’ve all seen matches where teams were down 20 points and managed a miraculous comeback to tie in the final moments! Or maybe it’s a nail-biting game right down to the last few seconds! March Madness is known for “buzzer wins.” Anxiety washes over us as we sit on the edge of our capes hoping our team will be the one to come out on top! How can teams “finish” in the final seconds? Sometimes it can be out of a team’s control, but there are also ways to prepare for these moments when you’re “tied at 88 with 5 seconds left.” One way is to practice for alert moments and have a game plan when they happen.

For recruiters, the “buzzer win” is when the candidate shows up on day one! You found the perfect candidate, the offer was accepted, and they show up to work on their first day. Hurrah!

** CONFETTI FLYS DOWN, YOU PUT ON YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP CAP AND RAISE YOUR VICTORY TROPHY! **

But as recruiters, they often know that even if a candidate accepts the offer, it doesn’t mean they’ll show up on day one! Why did this happened? What makes a candidate “ghost” you? It can be for any number of reasons, but one way to help prevent it is evidence ways to prevent it. Check out our article, “Is Your Candidate Hiding It? Become a Ghostbuster” for tips and best practices to avoid being ghosted. Once you figure out the best practices and testing methods for removing ghosting, you’ll be able to finish off more of those buzzer shots for the win!

The teams in March Madness are relentless and everyone has the drive to be the NCAA March Madness Tournament Champion! As you can see, there is a lot we can learn from these teams about strategy, leadership and teamwork, communication, determination and finishing in the last few seconds. So, go out there, bring this recruiting playbook, and be a recruiting champion!

The History of the Humphrey Metrodome

The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome has been the home of the Minnesota Twins for the past two decades. After opening its doors in April 1982, it became the third vaulted facility in the sport of baseball. Construction began in the winter of 1979 and was completed at $68 million, under budget, with the approval of the state of Minnesota. The Minnesota Twins home field is comprised of 20 acres and is located in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. In a matter of hours, the dome can be converted from a baseball facility to a soccer facility and vice versa. The total area of the field measures 142,515 square feet, features a 10-acre Teflon-coated roof, and rises 16 stories toward the downtown skyline.

As its name implies, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome was named in honor of one of Minnesota’s most famous public figures. Humphrey, who died in 1978, once served as Minneapolis mayor, senator, and vice president of the United States. The metrodome was named for the man who contributed greatly to both the state of Minnesota and the entire country in which he resides.

With the capacity to hold more than 45,000 baseball fans, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome has welcomed a total of more than 55 million spectators since it opened in 1982. Fans of the Minnesota Twins typically gather in the Plaza, which is located along Kirby Puckett Place inside the metrodome, prior to the initial launch. Speaking of pitching, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome features an electric pitcher’s mound, which has the ability to be raised or lowered via remote control and weighs 23,000 pounds.

Like other sports venues, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome has seen some memorable moments. Among one of the best is the fact that this facility is the only stadium to have hosted two World Series, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the NFL Super Bowl, and the NCAA Final Four of the Tournament. NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball. Unsurprisingly, there is a great deal of history locked within the walls of this facility. From the Minnesota Twins to the NFL Vikings, rodeo, motor sports and figure skating, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome has hosted it all. For those who have a chance to see it, a distant view of the metrodome at night will reveal a sea of city lights with a large dome shining in the heart of the city.
