why we like gadgets

I ask myself this question many times and I still have a fascination for gadgets like I think a lot of people have and I think men have even more fascination for gadgets than women. It can be the novelty or the coldness, but deep down we all have this mentality that we like new things that are fascinating to our minds. I would like to place the gadgets in several different categories.

  1. Geeky Gadgets – This category would include most people who want electronic gadgets, from computers to simple electronic marvels that come and go with our time. Many geeky gadgets can be a new fascination for a new type of mouse for a computer or even an electronic lighter.

  2. Gadgets for Men – In my opinion, men are more intrigued by gadgets than even boys. Men like to see something they can touch or feel, and not necessarily an electronic device, although I am personally fascinated by anything computer related, especially wi-fi or Bluetooth devices.

  3. Gadgets for Women: Women like gadgets for personal hygiene, hair gadgets that speed up the job of styling their hair, and especially kitchen gadgets to make their lives easier.

  4. Electronics – I know this is a broad category, but everyone likes gadgets that make our lives easier, and yet may be more appealing to one group than another, depending on what type of device it is. The latest gadgets like the Echo Dot and Home are just a few of the artificial devices that you talk to and respond to you once you give them voice commands. Just look at our smartphones that can control our lights, security systems, or order products online. Just think of how advanced GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) has become, capable of finding almost anywhere in the world. Electronics have become such a big part of our lives, almost anything with the name “smart” in front of it can be a new electronic device.

  5. Stupid and Funny Gadgets – I am grouping these together because if you are a prankster then there is a gadget for you, it can be a spy camera inside a pen or a camera attached to the label of a shirt or jacket. . How about a box that does nothing, stupid to some people and a lot of fun to other people? There are political gadgets and others that will simply give you ideas for your next party.

So why do we like gadgets? Psychologists believe that we want to have what others have, for example the launch of a new smartphone will find people lining up just to be in the “crowd”. Marketers use a lot of clever means to sell new gadgets, that way they can entice you into feeling like you must have that special item. These studies are based on market studies. A new field has opened up called “neromarketing”, which is the science of savvy marketing whereby companies seek to understand consumer behavior and why they are attracted to certain products, such as gadgets.
